The minimum software requirement for SCHOOL-MOM PLUS is DOS 2.1
or higher. The minimum hardware requirements are 640K of RAM, a
hard drive and VGA graphics. This software may not run on the
PCjr or with some graphics cards that are not 100% IBM PC
compatible.
To install the program on a hard drive, move to the drive and
directory where the School-Mom files are located then type INSTALL
and press ENTER. Choose the INSTALL ON HARD DISK option and follow
the instructions. This version must be installed on a hard drive to
operate correctly.
If you have a soundblaster card this program should talk with
real human voice (only if you have the voice turned on in School-Mom).
If you're running this program under Windows you'll find that
the voice is garbled or varies in speed. This is a DOS program.
To run it properly you need to exit Windows then run the program.
Remember, just going to the DOS prompt in Windows isn't exiting
Windows. Windows is still running in the background, using up
CPU time and making your DOS programs run sluggishly.
If you want to create your own voice files you can use Windows to
record WAV files then use the MAKERAW.EXE routine supplied with
School-Mom to convert the WAV files to RAW files that School-Mom
recognizes. You can use this technique to get the spelling
routine to actually pronounce your words. You'll just have to
record your own words.
If you find that the mouse doesn't work while in School-Mom and
it does under Windows, you haven't installed a mouse driver for
your DOS programs.
If you're using an older version of School-Mom and want to convert your
old exam files over to the new longer format used in School-Mom 6.2
just run the program called EXAMCONV.EXE. It will look for all the
old *.EXM files on the current directory and convert them to *.EX2 file.
Enjoy!
